Since Mendel was born, Ive been wondering how many of his extended family he'll be close to. And then I started to wonder how many he'd know by name. By sight? Will they just be names he's heard of?

After Shiva, I started working on compiling stories and anecdotes about his Zaide Levin to give Mendel a chance to get to know his grandfather.

I now realize, some months later, that Ive taken on more than I could possibly handle on my own. I would love to personally interview each family member and rediscover memories, but I now know that I cant possibly hope to accomplish that. Not properly.

So I am changing tracks. I am asking you, each of you to help me. Find a cherished memory. A moment, a passing remark. Even a memorable habit. Send them to me. No matter how small or seemingly insignificant. Each one matters.They are tidbits of a life, meant to be passed on.

I would also like to ask permission to use some of the pictures posted here of various family members, and some stories found in the archives of this blog.

What a beautiful thing family is. I'd like to pass it on to my son.
